'Tis The Season... For Sparkles

If there was ever a time for a glittery manicure, it’s now. The holiday season always calls for a little (or a lot) of extra sparkle, and nail polish has been having “a moment” for quite awhile now. It’s probably due to the economy and the fact that you can totally splurge on an expensive nail polish for about $25. (PS. I dropped my Chanel Peridot today and smashed the cap. Luckily, the bottle itself is fine and the inner cap is intact. I’m still a little pissed though.) Wether it’s the economy or just a random boom in nail polish technology, it’s the perfect time to try something new.

And it’s definitely time to investigate some sparkles for our nails! Let’s start out with a holographic microglitter polish, because: HELLYES! The one I have is from the Special Effects line by Nails Inc and it’s called Electric Lane Holographic Glitter Top Coat. I’m not sure where Electric Lane is, but I’m wondering if you can rock down to it from Electric Avenue. I bet you totally can.

I applied one coat over a bunch of different polishes so you could see the “special effect” it has on different colors. To add an extra layer of excitement, I used metallic polishes for the base.

I used:
  1. Queen of Everything — Sephora by O.P.I.
  2. Peridot — Chanel
  3. Viridian — Illamasqua
  4. Blue Satin — Chanel
  5. Hit Me With Your Best Shot — Lippman Collection
And now, here they are with one coat of Electric Lane on top.

Personally, I like it best over the lighter colored polishes. It’s very snow-queen-icey-magic-looking. On the darker colors, it’s more obvious and a little bit outer-space, which is cool in it’s own way. You can see how the glitter does it’s holographic color change thing in this little video. Ooooh... Ahhhh...

P.S. Here is a tip: When your regular manicure starts to get destroyed, use the same color to touch up the chips, then add a layer or two of glitter to blend everything together. Ta-dah! Another few days out of your manicure!

See? Glitter = Magic.

  2. Next time you see Diane, ask her about me and nail polish. I have a problem. I just got my first two Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes, as if I needed another luxury nail polish brand to obsess over. In fact, I just bought the Butter London holiday duo, solely for "tart with a heart," a glitter that looks really unique. I can't wait to top it over black. But the pink foil polish it came with is totally not my jam. Now maybe we should talk about the whole "hooker with a heart of gold" thing. Another blog.

  3. Wait til you guys see what's up next!

The first Rescue Beauty Lounge was in my old neighborhood and I used to go there when Ji Baek and her husband were still working the front desk! She was a bit of a diva, I guess she knew she was going to be a huge success. Her husband was really nice though.
