Blinc Once If You Like It, Twice If You Don’t

It seems like punkahontas readers have strong opinions about Blinc mascara. From what I've heard, they don’t really like it. Since I got a “free” tube in my Birch Box this month, I figured I should check it out and see what the beef is. (Hahah. That’s not how I talk, but oh well!)

The first thing I have to say is that I don’t hate it. It’s fine.

The actual tube of mascara comes packaged in a metal tube, which, I get. (Do you GET IT?!) So, yeah. Blinc is a tube-style mascara, which means it just sort of sliiiiides off your lashes when you wash your face. In lash-sized pieces. Like a bunch of dead spiders. Aside from the general creepiness, it’s kind of nice that it doesn’t get everywhere, save for a few spider-scraps in the sink. Generally, I use eye makeup remover before washing my face, so I don’t really have a problem with the mascara getting everywhere, but this would save that step.

Once, I forgot to remove my Blinc before getting in the shower (like I would my regular mascara) and I also forgot to wash it off while I was in the shower. But it vanished, without a trace. I imagine at some point while I was in there I had lots of little black rubbery things scurrying down my face. Luckily no one had to witness that, including me.

This is waterproof (as long as it’s not warm water, I guess?) and like other waterproof mascaras, it’s all fine and good until you start rubbing your eyes. Don’t, or it will GIVE you something to cry about! I haven’t tried swimming with it, but last Saturday was really windy and my allergies were raging. I was outside all day, my eyes were watering alot, and the mascara seemed to hold up fine.

But what about it’s actual mascara-ness? Uh. I mean, it’s “natural-looking” so…. Yeah. I guess it’s nice that it doesn’t clump? It doesn’t seem to help much with length or volume. It looked okay when I curled my lashes, but at $24, I feel like it should be a little more special. I doubt it’s doing anything the drugstore brands of tubescara can’t do. I would maybe wear this to the gym? If I cared. (I don’t.)

Basically, if you want to know what Blinc brings to the party, it brings like, plain white $24 cocktail napkins. “Gee, thanks! I’ll put these, uh, riiigght overrr heeere.”
