Crème Of The Crap

Before there was BB Creamavailable, I used Tarte Smooth Operatortinted moisturizer. And before that, I used Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, which was all the rage at the time. When I heard Laura Mercier had put her tinted moisturizer in a compact,I was definitely interested, mostly for touch-ups and travel. (Because I am still fiercely loyal to Dr. Jart!) So when I saw a Sephora promo code to get a free mini compact of the new tinted moisturizer, I snapped it up in a way that was very much like that little noise a compact makes when it closes.

I was really excited to try it, and I tried it, and I hates it.

At first, I was excited by the tiny size of the sample, since I am semi-obsessed with travel-size things. The compact is approximately the size of an Oreo. So cute! Then I realized the sponge is separate. Like, floating around wherever separate. This is only a problem with the sample size, the real one has a little compartment for the sponge, but it was still a disappointment.

The mirror inside is nice. Good quality, magnifying, no wasted space.

Then I tried applying some, and I realized it was going to take me 100 years to cover my face with this stuff. I mean, it’s a doll-size compact and I have a human-size face, so I guess that’s to be expected. Again, it’s really just a problem with having a sample size. It would still be good for touch-ups, if it didn’t have that pesky sponge issue.

Now on to the actual product, which is what I should be judging anyway. And my judgement is: I don’t like it. The cream, I’m sorry, “crème”, is a not-that-creamy solid. It didn’t go on, or blend, as easily as I had expected, and when I did get it on, it looked thick and cakey. It’s almost like concealer! Only less able to conceal.

And the weird thing is, even though I had a clean face, a brand new compact, and a brand new sponge, somehow there were little fibers and tiny black spots that kept showing up in the product. I have no idea where they were coming from.

So, YEAH. I am definitely not interested. Love the idea, hate the reality.

  1. I was really curious about this too, but now I know I don't have to bother! Speaking of miniature things, I just bought the new "In the Glow" (i think?) sample thing from Sephora and OMG it's such a good value and everything is so damned cute! Mini Nars Laguna, mini tarte cheek stain eeeeeee.

    1. oooooOOOOooo! That DOES look awesome, and it's already out of stock! It's probably safer for me that way. But maybe in time for summer...
