DIY: A-Salt Blackheads with Toothpaste (and Van Halen)

You guys. Someone just showed me this amazing video for blackhead removal using toothpaste and salt. I haven't actually tried the technique yet because I have makeup on and I'm going out to dinner, but I needed to share this right now. This video is amazing. I think my favorite part is "JUMP" in the background. But it also might be the image of the rose. I don't know, there are a lot of good parts.

Thanks Dandizette!

Update 3/2/12: I tried this after my shower yesterday, and it really does work! And the results last at least until the following day, my pores are still looking good. A word of warning: The "tingling" can be pretty intense when you do the scrub and rinse-off part, so be really careful not to get it near your eyes. I used Kosher Salt and Crest Complete, which, WOW. It burns! It fffrrrreeezzessss!

Tinted Moisturizer Showdown

I’m fairly certain you all haven’t gone out and bought yourselves airbrush makeup systems, though I continue to be obsessed with mine. One of the things I was researching before getting addicted to the airbrush was tinted moisturizer, and I still needed to find one to use for low-maintenance days and summer travel.

Zits & Wrinkles: The Best of Both Worlds

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the Dr. Dennis Gross Alph Beta Daily Face Peel, which works great, until you stop using it. I found it too expensive for long-term use, so I decided I would follow up my treatment with Murad Live Clear Acne Complex Starter Kit for maintenance.

Dr. Dennis Gross: Temporary Superhero

The unfortunately named Dr. Dennis Gross saved me, if only briefly. I had been blessed with good skin for most of my life, and probably never had more than four pimples at any one time. Until recently. I have been having what are considered “hormonal breakouts” and they suck. Some are regular zits, some are clusters of bumps, and all of them are hated. I started out using a sulfur spot treatment, which had worked for my occasional zits in the past. A sulfur spot treatment, in this case Kate Somerville’s EradiKate, involves going to bed with stinky pink dots on your face. It was kind of working, but left me flakey and subject to ridicule.

My Mia vs My Milia

One of the things I’ve spent a lot of time researching online is Milia. Primarily: How to prevent them. My dermatologist had already explained how to get rid of them. It involves either getting them cut out of your face, or applying Retin-A over the course of however long it takes the little sucker to come to the surface and roll away. This is why prevention is key.

For preventing milia, the general consensus is that an ounce of exfoliation is worth a pound of cure. And when I say “an ounce” I mean “a shit ton”. I need to do it every day, and with gusto!
